The Shelby Mustang is a high performance variant of the Ford Mustang built by Shelby from 1965 to 1968, and from 1969 to 1970 by Ford. The Ford Mustang and Shelby variant are iconic American muscle cars made famous by movies such as Bullit and Gone in 60 Seconds (both the 1974 and 2000 film). The car also featured heavily in popular culture; songs like Mustang Sally and numerous TV appearance made sure the car enjoyed celebrity status throught the 60’s and beyond.
This Shelby GT500 project runs in conjuction with Alan Faulkner-Stevens at Dragon Wheels. The attention to detail that Alan requires on his vehicles is truly breath-taking, the car must look and feel totally authentic when complete, as if you had been transported back to the factory in the 60’s and were just collecting the car when it was new.
The detail goes right down to the splashes of undersealing spray in the wheel arches and runs in the red oxide primer just like the factory used to do !
The bodywork is finished in Midnight Mist Blue and really sets the car off beautifully. This week the doors and wings were test fitted for the customer to view
The photos below are an example of the finish applied to new paint. Once the lacquer has been sprayed on it is wet flatted with first 1200 and then 2000 grit paper. This removes any texture in the paint in preparation for the 3 stage polishing process.
